Ayurveda Tips: Pitta Balancing
Summer is in full swing. The heat is on, and those of us in Colorado tend to enjoy soaking up the sun. But remember to keep yourself balanced and rejuvenated throughout the busy summer season. Here are some tips to help you from our Ayurveda expert, Helena Meyer...
Characteristics of Pitta include sharpness, heat, and acidity. Lifestyle and diet that are opposite to these three qualities help restore balance Pitta dosha. Pitta is more likely to be aggravated in the summer months.
Lifestyle and Diet Recommendations
1. Lifestyle recommendation for balancing Pitta is to avoid heating up --both physically and emotionally. This means: Avoid being in the heat during summertime, including taking hot baths. Avoid exercising when it's hot. Avoid emotionally "hot" situations - situations that bring anger up in you. Avoid time pressure. Avoid heavy exercising at any time - moderate exercise will help balance pitta. Be with happy people, avoid "sour" company. Unhappy people bring raise acidity in us, happiness and love alkalize our body.
2. Do not skip meals. Do not fast. Eat around noon. Do not wait to eat until you are very hungry. Delaying meals can cause excess acidity, so eat on time every day. Start your day with cooked sweet fruit, followed by cereal that contains no sugar. Eat a sustaining meal at lunchtime, and a lighter meal for dinner. For snacking, choose sweet juicy fruit--fully ripe mangoes, sweet pears and sweet juicy grapes are excellent. The Helena Meyer Pitta Body Oil cools pitta and soothes emotions. Our Digestion Aroma blend helps enhance digestion without aggravating Pitta dosha. It also helps balance stomach acid.
3. Stay cool in warm weather by wearing loose light colored cotton clothing. Wear a wide-brimmed hat and sunglasses to protect your eyes when you go out. Drink lots of room- temperature water.
4. Balance work and play. Play in water since this will hydrate the body, skin and emotions.
5. To soothe sensitive skin, to balance the emotions and to nourish the skin and nerves, treat yourself to an ayurvedic massage in our spa. Also, every morning before you bathe or shower. use our Pitta Body Oil. You will feel cool and nourished inside and out. Spray your skin with our 100% organic Damask Rose Toner. This will protect your skin from dehydration, as well as cool it. Rose nourishes the heart and regenerates and soothes the skin. Our Damask Rose skin care is perfect for you.
7. It is important to get to bed before 10 PM in order to allow adrenals to restore. An old ayurvedic "sleeping pill" is a cup of warm milk with some cardamom before bedtime. (Try soy milk or rice milk if you do not eat dairy)
9. It is important to allow the active pitta intellect to find deep rest in meditation each day. This will help balance the heart and emotions and strengthen the mind.

July Astrology with Sylvia L. Wyant
 |
Welcome space travelers! July continues our worldly adventure into the unknown in new and inspiring ways - if we choose to see events that way. Thus we have the key to dealing with the stress of change. Is the glass half empty or half full? With all of these changes swirling around us, let's take a look the opportunities presented:
Jupiter and Uranus continue in their forward march through Aries until July 5th when Uranus moves retrograde. Jupiter follows suit on July 23rd. These two bad boys are giving us a glimpse of what we CAN create in our life - far different then what we have been doing. Jupiter in Aries is expansive energy of individuation. Uranus gives us that rebellious push to do something completely different from the group norm or expectation. Saturn moves into Libra on July 21st helping us to build solid, strong relationships in order to bring our new insights and dreams to fruition somewhere down the road. The lumps and bumps come when you resist these powerful fellows with the intention of holding on to your worn out ideas - no matter what. Resistance is futile in this case - so go with the flow, let go - seek help if needed! Saturn rules our physical structure so massage that body, infuse it with energy and release your fear of the future! By the end of the summer you will be glad you did.
